Kanye West wants everyone to stop calling him by his ‘slave name’ and instead use his real name.
The rapper known for “Flashing Lights” always seems to be in the news. Whether it’s his famous breakup with Kim Kardashian, his brief relationship with Julia Fox, or his current situation with his new ‘wife’ Bianca Censori, he definitely knows how to stay in the limelight.
Now, it’s his name that’s sparking discussions.
West’s unusual request has sparked a lot of reactions online.
One person commented, “I totally respect what people want to be called, whether it’s their gender or name, that’s cool – but I’m not really into his behavior.”
Another person said, “It’s disappointing that people don’t get what he’s trying to say.”
West’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, has sent a letter asking that the rapper be called by his real name.
In the letter obtained by Page Six, West is described as “one of the most recognizable figures in the world, alongside presidents and popes.”
It also mentions that the ‘Stronger’ rapper “didn’t make the choice to change his name lightly” and is “possibly giving up some of the huge value associated with his name.”
This isn’t the first time West’s name change has been discussed.
In 2021, a Los Angeles court approved West’s request to legally change his name to Ye, as reported by TMZ. He also no longer has a middle name.
Since then, the media has been using both names, but Yiannopoulos wants that to change.
Yiannopoulos talks about how he is contacting “streaming platforms, publishers, stores, unions, lyrics websites, and data resellers” to make changes because these are some of the most popular places people go to.
The rapper mentioned his name change in a radio chat with BigBoyTV, saying, “I think ‘ye’ is the word that appears the most in the Bible, and it means you. So when I say ‘ye,’ I’m talking about you, me, and all of us.”
He explained that his name changed from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye, representing all the good, bad, and confusing parts of life.
After he released his 2018 album called ‘Ye,’ he hinted at his new name on X, which used to be Twitter, saying he was “the being formerly known as Kanye West.”
